After looking through PDF forums all over the place, I’ve noticed that this particular question crops up all the time: “How can I link through to pages/named destinations WITHIN a PDF from my web page?” Being a true adherent to the “Economy of effort” principle (AKA just plain lazy), I thought it would be best to write this up as a tip to save typing it in each time.

Hobie Swan from MindJet Software kicked off this morning’s Gnomedex with a demo of Mind Manager, a really cool mind mapping application. He demoed the software on a tablet PC, which is exactly how it should be used, because it enables quick gestures to add and organize the mind map, as well as drawings that can be added to the mind map directly. …

For those not familiar with mind maps, they are a visual technique for generating ideas and enhancing creativity. Developed by Tony Buzan, mind maps are great for brainstorming because they take advantage of the “right brain” creativity by using non-linear ideas, and graphics and drawings. When you write a text-only, top-down outline, your brain is in logical “left brain” mode. Opening up your idea generation to allow ideas to sprout in any direction, and to feel free to add color and drawings gets your creative juices flowing.

“The best way to clean a lens is not to get it dirty.”

“IN THREE YEARS OF DSLR OWNERSHIP AND OVER 50,000 IMAGES I’VE NEVER TOUCHED A SENSOR TO CLEAN IT. BEWARE!”

“Avoid cleaning sensors like the plague.”

TheBrainFreeze.com is a website dedicated to ‘ice cream headaches’, a condition sometimes known as ‘brain freeze’. It hosts a short yet strangely compelling movie of people causing headaches in themselves with slushed ice drinks.

A 1997 article in the British Medical Journal explained why cold things cause headaches, and describes some good old-fashioned self-experimentation in the service of science.

If you’ve been using PCs for a while, you’re bound to have an old one you don’t use much, if at all. With 2-GHz computers available for well under $1,000, what good is an old 300-MHz Pentium II system? The answer depends on your willingness to experiment, have fun, learn, and prevent pollution. Here are ten things you can do with that old PC, starting with tasks for relatively “better” old PCs, and working our way down to the real junkers.

Source: Tips & Tricks: 10 Things to Do With Old PCs

Here is the list from the source post:
1. Learn networking.
2. Make a multimedia player.
3.Try multiplayer games.
4. Install Linux.
5. Make a printer/file/Web server.
6. Donate your unwanted PC to a local school.
7. Take it apart.
8. Strip it and sell the parts.
9. Turn it into an aquarium.
10. Recycle it.

I have done or thought about doing 9 of 10 of these items. The aquarium idea never came up. One thing not on the list - I have given an older computer or two to family members.
